The angels are forced to admit that God was right, and the punishment for the fallen angels is to hang by their feet in a well in Babylon until the Day of Judgment. A b'raita, apparently interpreting azazel as az (rugged) + el (of God), understands it to refer to the rugged and rough mountain cliff from which the goat was cast down.
